What exactly titles do you mean? Placed on what page?

In MiniBB the title of pages is somthing like this:
Forum name - Topic name
I mean if one topic have more than one page then this is better that the title format be like
Forum name - Topic name - page #

I am wondering if there is any other benefit to having the page number displayed in the title bar other than being able to look at it and seeing it.

Such as search engines do they index pages better or anything

Yes, I think there is because when the search engine finds two pages with identical title - it gets "confused" and may treat these pages as having duplicate content. If there's at least one word/character different in the title, it's not likely to trigger a red flag...

I agree with you, Pages with similar titles may consider as duplicate content...

So would it not be worthwhile including the page numbers with the topic listings aswell then?

It looks better on search engines afterall, but duplicated content is not the reason of implementing it (there is no duplicated content at all, because pages have different URL; only page titles are the same).

I think, there is no need to include "Page" wording or something (for this, we also must to insert "Page" translation in each language pack, this is a lot of work - we don't want to touch language packs anymore). Thus "Page" is also a keyword, and what we need to achieve, is not fulfill indexing content with keyword "Page", but just some way to differentiate multipage titles. So I am offering the following:

1) When topic has more than 1 page, it's title is displayed like for example:

Showcase Forum - mini bulletin board forums - [1]
Showcase Forum - mini bulletin board forums - [2]
Showcase Forum - mini bulletin board forums - [3]

etc.

OR alteratively:

Showcase Forum [1] - mini bulletin board forums
Showcase Forum [2] - mini bulletin board forums
Showcase Forum [3] - mini bulletin board forums

Personally I like more first variant.

2) When topic has only one page, nothing is changed and is displayed like now.

Let me know your thoughts...

Showcase Forum - mini bulletin board forums - [1]
Showcase Forum - mini bulletin board forums - [2]
Showcase Forum - mini bulletin board forums - [3]

yeah that format looks best

Well, I also think "page" would be not necessary - number should be enough..

However, I think it would be better:

"2) When topic has only one page, nothing is changed and is displayed like now. "

because most topics don't have more than 20-30 replies so there's no need to put [1] on the first page...

And I like this variant more: :)

Showcase Forum [1] - mini bulletin board forums
Showcase Forum [2] - mini bulletin board forums
Showcase Forum [3] - mini bulletin board forums

because the number would relate to the forum topic, not the site name.

I think (MHO, as ever), that it's not logical to omit the first page in the numbering. The first page, too, IS a page, finally :)

If you want somehow the number 1 to exist, it will be better to include the number 1, but it to be connected to the 1st page of the thread.

Anyway, as it is now is absolutely enough, I think.

Greetings.

May be I had not understood the dialogue before my message :)

The logical is either as it is now:

[Title, in the same time - link to page 1, no number], 2, 3, 4... (I like it better but it's not so important.)

or

[Title, in the same time - link to page 1], 1 (again linking to page 1), 2, 3, 4...

1. How it will be with the above code?
2. Will it be changed in the default version?

:)
