I am new to this forum and just installed minibb. I have been using diferent popular forums for my websites but this one is the best of all. Very fast to load, simple to use and all the functions you need. I especially like the mod rewrite but have a little request to make it better. I have seen a hack for a different software that takes the topic subject and includes it in the URL such as minibb.com/forums/suggestions/4_0-mod-rewrite.html
I have no idea how to setup such thing but I am sure there is some pros out here that would have no problem to do this and lots of users interested. Let me know what you think.

This suggestion sounds not for the first time... the main problem of it we see is that miniBB is multilingual software by nature, not english-only. We can not include such feature by default, because in that we case, we also will need someway to convert non-english topic titles to latin-like titles when creating SEO URLs. And it will be a VERY difficult task.

In general, this rule is mostly a bogus. miniBB was indexed well even at the times when it has no .html-URLs option; for now, miniBB is also indexed very well without this rule.

I think it would be good if you could make the mod rewrite so it shows the topic of the post in the link

for example something like this: http://reviews.cnet.com/Siemens_SX66_Cingular_Wireless/4505-6452_7-312 56904.html

this topic would be something like: http://www.minibb.com/forums/mod_rewrite_update/4_3870_0.html

Very bad? Have you read this?

Skip your fantasies... it doesn't make a big sense for search engines.

Here is what I have to tell regarding this keyword-rich URIs myth:

So called "User-friendly" URI (Uniform Resource Identifier, or URL - Uniform Resource Locator) consisting of a large keywords-rich phrase may not be considered as a user-friendly at all. By "user-friendly" I could call the address which is easy to remember for a user, or simple to recognize, or is quick to write by a hand. For example if you are in Internet bar and found some interesting site which you can't save on the disk, you must take a pen and then write it down manually. In that case miniBB provides short URIs which consist of digits only. For example: www.yourdomain.org/1_23_0.html means you are entering some topic's first page.

Most of SEO beginners think keyword riched-URIs are user-friendly, but this is a mistake. How could we call such URL as 'www.yourdomain.org/channel/health/mg19225755.100-patient-groups-special-swallowing-the-best-advice.html' or 'www.yourdomain.org/Web_Development/Internet_Marketing/Search_Engine_Optimization_SEO/Q_22960069.html' to be user-friendly? Take a pen and try to write these three examples down; you will see which one takes more time to write, and so more time to type, to remember or whatever.

Even in theory such poor program as Google or even a better search engine should not care about URIs' content; but it cares only about their length. Ideally URIs should only follow the limitation of about couple of hundred characters in length (it is recommended not to exceed 255 characters); but even this is under doubt because for a robot it shouldn't be a problem to keep long URIs.

Additionally, imagine that ALL sites on the planet have keyword-based URLs which is very possible in theory. How ALL of them could appear AT THE TOP of the search results? Of course some of them will come first, some of them will be listed later, and some of them will be not indexed at all. URIs shouldn't matter here because they are subject of the fake idea.

This is why we say no to it, and there is still unofficial releases, for example, take a look at this thread or specially my post under it.
