I would like to see an example; but if they are using BB codes, you have two ways as written already: either disable image link BB codes in bb_codes.php, either modify them so only registered or allowed users may post pictures etc.

... release, this feeature was quite experimental, and there is a field to expand it. Once condition is met in bb_func_txt.php where it says and $GLOBALS['user_num_posts']>5 and the second is in bb_codes.php where it says the same. So you probably may change this value in these two places and that would be enough...

It's possible, but will require a lot of practical knowledge and skills... basicly, you need to modify bb_codes.php file and modify the codes for links. You may also set up a different code for pop-up link. The question is very custom and is not related to our free support. So my free advices...
