I have to disagree with you Ben. Having the latest post at the top is a far smarter way to run things. Checking for updates can be a real mare otherwise. And I never would have seen your entry had it been all the way on page 4. Yebo.

I like these forums. D e a d simple.

the forum system is really nice.

There are two things I would like to see added though (they may be possible at the moment... I don't know?)

1) I would like new replies placed at the end of the thread rather than the start. This is the way all other forusm I have seen work and I find it confusing being the way it is. I would be more than happy if there was a switch so you can choose which way it works (in the setup file/ the admin control panel)

2) The ability to prune old messages to prevent the forum from getting too big. Actually to follow on from this the ability to lock threads that are over a certain age would be good (but not essential).

MiniBB is really nice (i'll probably use the MiniBBx version) and I hope to add it to my site soon.

I must say I echo all the comments about your untidy coding style. It's not very nice to see totally uncommented code with illogical variable names.

If I was to make some adjustments/ improvements could I email them to you for inclusion in the main file? I prefer to use things without modification so that if I upgrade in the future I don't have to go and edit everything again.

Ooh - just about to post the message, and notive a lack of preview button. that would be very handy as well.

----------------------------------

1) Only this thread is sorted in reversed order, since we want fresh opinions stay on top. It's a feature.

2) Right now, we are working on the main core; however, archivation plugin is planned in the near future; it will include your request.

As about coding style - it's our product and our coding style, it's open source, so these claims are not taken into consideration. Every user could edit our source the way he likes, including you; as about modifications, previews, etc. - we have our own concepts, and will follow them. Every user needs something different, and you too, so it's better to keep on yourself, not obtrude your opinion on everyone, like we do.

Yes, I love the general simplicity. It's so easy to style (unlike other forum scripts I have tried) and customize. It just fits so seamlessly into my current layout. Plus the small size is just perfect for what I need. I like the option to be able to show the posts directly when there is only one forum activated.

The layout is very good. And logical, too. You can believe me. Of course, what you like personally is very different question :)

you should consider rewriting miniBB. i've not seen many programs written such confusing code. i'm currently work to get this thing integrated in a portal and have to do workarounds for all the login stuff of minibb. minibb is nice, cause it's very lightweight.

but the coding-style makes me crying. you should also use a code beautifier before releasing such a thing.

-------------

We are coding the way we like it, you can do the same.

Small, Easy and just the perfect thing for 'just to discuss some questions'

Great job, keep it small.

There's so much to say about how much I love this I'm just going to sum it up in one word: Wow.

my views after installing and using it for a couple of weeks:

positive:
- easy to install
- very fast!!
- very simple and small, yet powerfull
- has nearly everything that a forum should have
- good old fashioned solid html code (instead of new things like dhtml,...)

remarks:
- some layout issues, which have all been corrected in minibb2 (the registration page for example)
- i really miss a preview function (to check if links and bbcode is correct, spelling mistakes, ...). This would be very handy and have no effect on speed.
- maybe a small text saying when a topic was edited and by who
- better quote system (including the author name from who the text was quoted)
- having the ability to include the last discussions in any page (like the miniBB2 home page includer) because the last news add-on is a bit too limited).
- maybe avatars (but not necessary)

All in all, i love it :)

----------------------------------------
Thanks, and:

- there is a plugin for previewing posts;
- when you edit the post, the name of editor APPEARS (not time - we find it not necessary to display the time, since posts could not be edited after some time anyway)
- Clicking on Member name, you'll get author name in Quote, if you need it
- We'll think about last discussions
- Avatars plugin is planned, with new miniBB2 it should be more easy

This is a great forum.
I'm glad I looked at all the options before I installed one. Fast, light and very easy to modify. Congratulations.

I just put miniBB on my site; it was much smaller, faster, and less bulky than the more full-featured alternatives, and it was MUCH more customizable. Within about 4 hours' time, I was able to customize the heck out of it and integrate it into the overall look and feel of my site.

Very nice!

Someone designed a simple template for 4images AND minibb so that they fit flawlessly together. So cool. I only added a memberlist, preview for threads smilies and avatar capability(minimal). It's awesome! Thanks so much for a great program! :)

I'm in love with this forum. I love the overall simplicity, style and setup. While I'm thinking of going the way of including avatars (small), despite taking away from the base concept of the board, this particular forum defines itself in other ways. It stands out above all others imho. Thanks for the best board ever, with the cleanliness and simplicity I thrive on in design.
