Auto-register and log in

I want to integrate this bb seamlessly into my exiting site. Since I already have their username, etc, I can copy it diecrectly into the right tables. What are the fields I need to populate? Also, what do I have to do to log them in automatically (or keep them always logged in). Would I have to set a cookie? If so, what would it contain?
