Get miniBB data from outside the forum

Hello
I've been trying for some time now to extract the miniBB data from outside the directory where the forum is installed but failed.
More precisely: I've tryed to create two boxes on my home page containing:
1) The latest discussions (only the topics)
2) The online users (from the whosonline addon)

The problem was that I couldn't find the right mbb files to include in order to get acces to the right variables.
Could you tell me how I could do this? Is this possible?

It is possible but this is definitely not a job for a non-coder, and it not that easy.
