php variables like {$something} do not work in main_header.html

"Probably you are doing echo $adsense; somewhere, but instead you need to keep all Adsense's output to variable $adsense and then add {$adsense} in the template you like (probably, main_header.html)"

ok this was an old post, but actually I wonder if this has stopped working now, php variables in html like {$somthing} I can't ge working in main_header.html for some reason anymore.... maybe this was just me, it worked in 1.7x but in 2.0x I can't get it to work.

Yes it seems only your custom trouble. They all work in the latest release, as in all other versions though.
