Removing registration form's restrictions

Hello!

First of all, thank you very much for your work, your forum is awesome =)

Is there any way to remove restrictions for the fields in the registration form?

Such as minimal length to login and password fields. And starting login from the letter, not digit? And to use symbols of other languages (such as cyrillic) both in login and password fields?

Nowadays it's all up to user what he want to fill in this fields, and we can handle with any of them. So the restrictions are not neccesary, they are only making the registration process harder for new users.

Setting $uname_minlength and $uname_maxlength in setup_options.php you could re-define the minimum and the maximum length of a registered username, respectively.

As about the password length, we think it's suitable by default (it should be in range of 5-32 symbols which is suitable for most of cases); if you want to change this rule, you should modify bb_func_checkusr.php and change this expression:

"#^[A-Za-z0-9_]{5,32}$#i"

As about the username, you could edit $userRegName setting and put all the chars you would like to allow in the username. For example, for Cyrillic symbols it could look like:

userRegName option (Cyrillic)

It's a very unwanted action to allow using of the specific chars in the password field. You could be afterall stormed by user's requests asking why they couldn't login from different browsers or operating system. Our recommendation is to keep all passwords like they are provided in default miniBB. If you still want to allow extra symbols in the password field, you should modify the same expression mentioned above, in the same manner as it happens with username option.

And starting login from the letter, not digit?
It could be re-defined or defined in the verifyUsername function of bb_func_checkusr.php.
