If you use the following link with the Vimeo plug-in it won't work.

https://vimeo.com/70921986

But if you plug the link into any browser it works fine.

Our users are reporting that a cut and past of the link from Vimeo (on a Mac) shows https:// as the URL...

Any ideas?

I'm not sure - if you would like to embed the video, why are you pasting the Link? It will work like the straight URL, it's logical.

For embedding the video, you need to use an embedding approach, copying the Link value Vimeo provides.

Either this BB code:

[vimeo=http://vimeo.com/70921986]

either this one:

[vimeo500x281=http://vimeo.com/70921986] - this is only for experienced users wanting to provide the exact size of the video.

Also, Vimeo has an embedding code, located below the Link field. Check the example:

Vimeo Share

The best solution is to use this code, actually, the code located in between <iframe>...</iframe> tags (that stuff about <p>...</p> content is not supported in miniBB and mostly appears like a self-advertising option).

As you see, noone of the Vimeo codes refers to https. That's why I'm not sure why miniBB should support what Vimeo doesn't support itself. I believe, https links should be exactly and only used for being referenced as hyperlinks.

I've checked the current Vimeo solution for miniBB on the demo, and it still appears to work.

Mmmm - strange.
We are using the Vimeo bb code button, but when the link (as a copy and past from Vimeo) has https;// as per the first post above the bb code isn't working.

The https;// bit seems to be when using a Mac only to do the cut and paste. On a PC all is ok.

You're copying the public URL for Vimeo video. It's not about the embedding URL.

You may try to modify BB code for Vimeo add-on in enCodeB() function of BB codes, adding secured protocol to support. For example, change this:

$pattern[]="/\[vimeo=http:\/(\/www\.|\/)vimeo\.com\/([0-9]+)\]/i";
to this:

$pattern[]="/\[vimeo=http[s]*:\/(\/www\.|\/)vimeo\.com\/([0-9]+)\]/i";
Let me know if it worked, didn't try that...

It`s no secret that Vimeo members upload some of the best content on the web. This site is a powerhouse of talent, and all of the rename for that goes to you guys.
