What's the difference and how do they work: $cookie_expires & $cookie_renew

Hi,

I'm relative new to minibb, but because I like it's look so much, I decided to use it on Joomla (CMS).
So I started writing a bridge for Joomla<->MiniBB.

So far, it's going quite well, but I don't understand something.
In the configuration of minibb, there are these two variables:
$cookie_expires
$cookie_renew

I set the $cookie_expires the same value as the session time of Joomla.
But when cookie_expires is smaller than cookie_renew, it just doesn´t work.

What's the link between the two and why can't cookie_expires be smaller than cookie_renew?

Thanks in advance. If you want to check the progress of my bridge, you can visit this website.

$cookie_expires is unix epoch time in seconds, after which cookie will expire. When authorizing user's session (each time he views the pages), script is checking, how many time is left before cookie expires. If this time is less than $cookie_renew amount of seconds, expiration of cookie is prolong $cookie_expires seconds more.

Nope, we don't. What's the sense to keep this value in cookie?

In doesn't matter, for registered or not. If you are reading cookie, it means already he is online. What the sense to keep cookie on user's computer? If he shuts down the browser, you can not read this cookie - and then what?
