Hi

Here is a pretty novel way to show any type of video on the minibb forum - or any forum come to that as I have done exactly the same on the phpBB and smf and other forums besides. All you have to do is create a new topic with the details you want your video to have and save it. Then open up the database and post in the streaming code in the minibbtable_posts. This is not at all difficult to do and I can easily add 25-40 videos in an hour. I have also altered various template files so that the video shows at the very top with the author etc showing underneath. The results are quite impressive and with the speed of the minibb foum compared to other ponderous forums the videos are easy to find and load.

You can see how this works on my new DAoC Video forum. Enter visiting for user and password as the videos are for members only. All the videos are divx on this site so you will need to have the divx plugin to see them.

The above can be done to any script using a database but bear in mind that once you have posted the code into the database you will not be able to edit your post through the forum (script). If you edit it on the forum itself the streaming code will not work once resaved.

Streaming DivX appears to be a very interesting technology (much better than FlashMovie I think), but saving directly to the posts table goes out of my imagination since it is completely wrong way. True I can't understand how it is possible to save a binary content in the plain text field.

I suppose much better way to show / attach videos to posts is to use File Bank add-on, then to provide a link to the uploaded video and/or use special BB code to inserting it in the post via regular <object> tag or something similar.

But your method works for miniBB, it's also good :-)

It is a pretty novel way to do this but I must admit I have been doing something similar with various scripts for quite some time. It seems you can post anything directly into the database text boxes and the code remain intact. It only breaks if you attempt to alter it on the forum itself.

This is a pretty extreme method and won't appeal to many but as I have worked on the database a great deal it seems ok to me. Probably others will be scared stiff to even attempt to do the above. Still it works a treat and enables me to keep using the minibb forum as opposed to the much larger forums out there.
